1st grade week 2
From Katie's teacher's website--what's she's learning:
Reading-In reading we are talking about Daily 5 and what it looks like in our classroom. Daily 5 is a reading program that encourages students to do 5 things that will help them succeed in reading (read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, and word work). This week we are doing a modified Daily 5 so that I can pull individual students to assess their reading.
Writing- Students are being introduced to Writer's Workshop. During this time I teach a small lesson and then students are able to write independently. While students are writing independently I will conference with students on any individual needs they may have.
Math- In math we have been working on our numbers up to 120. Students have been working on representing numbers using 10 frames, filling in missing numbers (12____,13,14,____), and showing numbers many different ways (tally marks, number words, pictures, etc).
Social Studies- In Social Studies this week we will be learning about Kelso's Choices. Kelso's Choices is a conflict resolution program that teaches students how to solve small problems (such as someone cutting in line or not sharing a ball at recess.) The students have met Kelso (he's a stuffed frog) and have learned about the difference between a small problem and a big problem (a big problem is when you get hurt, you're scared, or something is dangerous).
First Week of First Grade
Our first week of first grade was a success! Students learned a lot about our classroom rules and procedures and also learned about each other. This week we will be settling more into our weekly routine.
