3/24 Mucho Mundo  - Rocks Today in Mucho Mundo we talked about using la vista (sight) to determine el color de las rocas y la tierra (the color of rocks and soil). Mucho Mundo  - Use of Rocks Today we learned that people use rocas Fuertes (strong rocks) to construct edificos (buildings). People also use rocas (rocks) to create monumentos (monuments). 3/10
Small Group Math  - Exchange Pennies and Nickels Today we played a money problem-story game. The problem we solved involved 30 pennies that were very heavy to carry in a pocket, we worked together to solve the money problem! We exchanged our 30 pennies for 6 nickels!

Mucho Mundo  - Describing Rocks Today in Mucho Mundo we are talking about the different characheristics of rocas (rocks). Sometimes rocas have los orificios de aire (air holes), rocas could be suave or áspera (smooth or rough).
3/6 Small Group Literacy  - The Old Man in the Mountain Today the children heard the story “The Old Man in the Mountain” by Lara Winegar. After the story we decided to create our own model of the man in the mountain. The children were encourages to represent any of the three stages: whole, cracking, and when it fell apart. 3/3

We sang a song called We Show Caring; the children gave some great substitution ideas about how we show we care for others! 2/22 Small Group Literacy  - Day in India The children heard the story Day and Night at the Festival of Colors by Allison Lim. We compare daytime in India to daytime where we live. The children drew representations of those daytime skies.

Circle Time  - Twilight Comes Twice: Dusk Today we heard the story Twilight comes Twice by Ralph Fletcher. We talked about some signs that let us know dusk is upon us, the children describe what the sky is like just as it begins to get dark.
2/10 Small Group Math  - Make it Balance Today the children explored balance with various objects and balance scales. We had a fun time getting both sides of the scale to balance! 2/8
Mucho Mundo  - En la Noche o en el Día (In the Nighttime or in the Daytime) Today we learned en la noche el cielo es negro (at night the sky is black). La luna es blanca en el día y en la noche (The moon is white at daytime and at nighttime). 2/6 Circle Time  - Night in the Country Today we made a T-chart that shows what diurnal and nocturnal animals do during the day and the night. We also took a picture walk through the book Night in the Country by Cynthia Rylant.
2/3 Today we brainstormed how to decorate a book box. We are collecting books to give to children that may not have books at home to read.


2/1 Today the children practiced their dribbling skills. The children had a great time dribbling with one hand than switching to the other hand 10 times without losing control.

1/30 Today we talked about what we like to do en el día (in the day). We voy a la escuela (go to school) or juego en el parque (play at the park).



1/18 Today we played a counting game with food boxes (counters). We mixed up the number cards and picked one card, we counted out our food boxes (counters) to represent the number on the number card.

Project Time: Happy Hearts Character Development  - Acting Out a Promise Today we acted out a story about our Primrose Friend Billy. The story was about keeping a promise and how keeping a promise makes others feel.

Today we had a great time playing store in our classroom! Some of us were workers and some of us were customers. We learned a technique to help us remember that a penny is one cent, a nickel is worth five cents, we can trade a nickel for five pennies (one, two, three, four, five).

Math Small Group  - Treasure Map We are continuing our conversation about maps today. We are hiding a treasure and using a map to help us locate that treasure, what fun!

Literacy Small Group  - Mapping Penny’s World Today in small group literacy we listened to a story called, “Mapping Penny’s World”, by Loreen Leedy. We also talked about the parts of a map, how the characters in the story used the map, and what happens at the end of the story.

Project Time: Happy Hearts Character Development  - The Generous Mouse Today we heard the story “The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear”, by Don Wood. This story reminds us to be generous, we thought of a time when we wanted someone to share with us and how that made us feel. 12/21 Project Time: Steam  - STEAM: Mixing White Powders and Clear Liquids (Part II) Today we are going to be chemists! We are going to find out what happens when we mix white powders and vinegar!

Literacy Small Group  - No Fair Today we learned a poem about fairness called “No Fair”. We discussed how to be fair and that it is important to treat everyone fairly. 12/16
Circle Time  - Not So Itsy Bitsy Spider Today we read the “Itsy Bitsy Spider” during Noggin’ Joggin’. We pretended that a ball was the spider and we needed to see how much force we need to use to push the ball around the circle on the floor. We used a small ball and a large ball to compare the force needed to move the ball. 12/14
Circle Time  - Liquid Dance Today we danced like liquid! When the music had a fast tempo we moved fast like a thin liquid, when the music had a slow tempo we moved slow like a thick liquid.

12/12 We talked about how water is a liquid and read the book "What Mixes with Water." In the book, the little girl does an experiment to see if water mixes with sugar, sand, and oil. Ask your child about it!

  • Project Time: Steam  - We used our 5 senses (actually only 4, we didn't taste) to observe some clear liquids. We observed water, carbonated water, and vinegar.
  • Small Group Math  - We are learning about time this week. We looked at some clocks and talked about how time is a pattern. Happy birthday Jill

Outdoor Play And Thumbs Up!  - Jumping Today during Thumbs Up! We practiced our jumping skills! We were jumping like frogs, jumping in and out of hoops, and jumping backwards without falling over!

Literacy Small Group  - Shell Shapes Today we listened to a story called, “Shell Shapes”, by Fawn Bailey. After the story we talked about what we would name the shells based on their properties. We had lots of fun naming our shells!
12/5  Today we read a book called, “Properties” by Heather Klinkhamer. We discovered that there are many ways to identify an object, by smell, by feel, by hear or even by taste.


11/21 Today we read a book about feelings called "In My Heart". We discussed how our heart can feel many different ways and wrote about how our heart was feeling.

11/18 Today we practiced our balancing skills. We were careful to walk sideways and backwards with beanbags on our heads!


11/16 Today we made bird feeders out of milk cartons. While working on these bird feeders we talked about what kinds of birds may visit our feeders, the best place to hang our feeders, and we are going to observe and record our observations once birds start using our feeders!

Today in Mucho Mundo we talked about las frutas (fruits) and los vegetales (vegetables). We also learned las frutas tienen semillas (fruits have seeds) and los vegetales no tienen semillas (vegetables do not have seeds). 


11/11 Today in Rhythm & Notes we explored the difference between a quarter note and an eighth note. We marched around the classroom clapping out the syllables to the beat.

Today we read the book “The Biggest Pumpkin Ever” by Steven Kroll. We cooperated as a group to create our own biggest pumpkin ever!


11/2 Today we used our imaginations to come up with a picture of what the music makes us think about. We drew the pictures that were inspired by the music.

10/31 Today we did something very interesting, we listened to a classical music about a storm. We shut our eyes while we listened to the music and drew whatever came into our heads.

10/19 Calor y Frio (Hot and Cold)
Today in Mucho Mundo, we talked about the weather in Mexico and the USA. We discovered that en México hace calor (It’s hot in Mexico) and en USA hace calor y frio (It’s hot and cold in the USA). 
10/17 Today we read the book “Rain” by Manya Stojic. We talked about the letters Ss, Ww, Ll, Pp, Zz, and Rr and what types of animals we can name that begin with those letters.

/12 Today we had a fabulous time playing a game of “Freeze.” We walked around in every direction that you can imagine and then we froze!! We also had a great time practicing bouncing and catching the ball.

9/19 Today we talked about how we have different people in our families. We talked about what a family is and who is in our family.


9/16 In Happy Hearts, we talked about Respect. Respect means that we are kind, gentle and polite to other people.

  • Circle Time  - We had a fun day talking about Inside, Outside, Upside Down. Examples of what we discussed; "The toy inside the box" and "we are inside the classroom", and "When we are on the playground we are outside of the school". We also talked about the different animals that hang upside down, such as; monkeys and bats.
  • Writing Center  - We enjoyed practicing how to write our names during the writing lesson today!

     This week we enjoyed watching the children express themselves. Tuesday we had lots of children showing us how they express themselves by dressing up and it was very entertaining! Next week we have a really fun unit, “ Inside, Outside, Upside Down.”

Today we talked about mixing colors! We learned that our primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Then we used paint to see what different colors we could make when we mixed the primary colors together! We also played freeze dance!

We are doing lots of wild and wacky experiments this week! Today we observed what happened when we put food coloring in oil! Ask your child about it! We also grew some crystals! In writing we practiced writing letter 'A' and 'B'!
8/5 Next week, we will be enjoying the theme,“Wild and Wacky Experiments". Together we will conduct several experiments by mixing, freezing and cooking a variety of ingredients. With all the activities we have coming up this is going to be a fun and exhilarating week for all of our scientists!

Today we had a great time building in block center, coloring hard hats and making play doh cookies.

8/1 This week our theme is "I Can Build". We had a good time singing a building song and reading "Froggy Builds a Treehouse".

Next week will be an exciting one as we learn about architects and how they use blueprints to build! The students will also use art materials, food items, and other materials to create unique and creative buildings in class!

7/25 We are talking about dinosaurs this week! Today we named some dinosaurs we know and learned that paleontologists dig up dinosaur bones and fossils. In writing we wrote about what it would be like to have a dinosaur as a pet. We also had fun singing "Have You Ever Seen a Dinosaur?" 

7/22 We wrapped up the week discussing "Western Round-Up". The kids did a great job writing words associated with Cowboys. 


We made it to Friday everyone! Roar!!! Next week, we will do the dinosaur stomp as we explore prehistoric creatures; such as Triceratops and Brontosaurus and many more. We will gain knowledge through stories, dramatic play, songs, and outdoor activities!  

7/20 Today during Circle we talked about tumble weeds. We had fun singing "Have You Ever Seen a Cowboy". We also pretended to be horses.

This week our theme is Western Roundup. Today we made horseshoe prints in art. We enjoyed singing "I'm a Little Cowboy". 


7/15 We had a lot of fun doing water play today! We got to stay out a little longer than usual! We finished up talking about kings and queens in circle time, then had some extra center time since it's Friday! 
Next week, we will learn about cowboys and horses as part of our "Western Round-Up"

We are still learning about castles and kingdoms. We made keys to the kingdom in art and wrote about dragons! Everyone looked great dressed up today!

7/11 We are talking about kings, queens, castles, and knights this week! We made a shield in art and drew a picture about what it would be like to live in a kingdom!

6/22 Today we drew a picture of our favorite safari animal. We also made binoculars and went on a safari! 

6/20 This week we will be learning about The Jungle. During Art we made animal masks. We had fun pretending to be jungle animals during Circle Time. 

6/18 We finished up our week learning about the city by taking a small picture of the city and adding on to it. We also made goo! We had a great time celebrating our dads at the Donuts for Dads celebration!

We finished up our week learning about the city by taking a small picture of the city and adding on to it. We also made goo! We had a great time celebrating our dads at the Donuts for Dads celebration!

This week we had so much fun learning about the cactus country. We also had a blast at the Kick Off to Summer field day. Next week, we will continue in the month of June with the "Life in the Big City” Unit of Learning. The students will learn about skyscrapers, taxi cabs, city buses, and other exciting parts of city life. We will use Circle Time discussions, stories, and art activities to help us explore the theme in fun, age-appropriate ways



6/8 Today during Circle Time we talked about cacti. We learned that the biggest cactus is the Saguaro. During Art we decorated sun visors. 





6/6  This week, we will begin the month of June with the "Cactus Country” Unit of Learning. The students will study deserts, lizards, cacti and more! We will also use Circle Time discussions, theme-related books, science lessons and engaging art activities to help us explore the theme in fun, age-appropriate ways

Today in Writing the children wrote: flag, Stars and Stripes. During Math the Preschool children worked on Sorting and Classifying. The Pre-K children are working on adding tens, fives and ones to make two-digit numbers.

\This week we will be learning about The United States of America. Today we learned that our flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes. 

5/18 We talked about what we like to do outside during the summer and drew a picture of it. In art, we decorated huge sunglasses!



5/16 We are talking about summer time this week! Today we wrote about our favorite thing to do at the beach. In math, preschool practiced ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, etc.). Pre-k practiced subtraction.
Next week, the students will explore various topics related to summer as we start counting down to the summer season. We will explore activities and items commonly associated with summer through Circle Time discussions, science experiments, and art activities. 

 5/13 We learned about fruit words in Spanish with Ms. Yoli! In writing, we wrote about our favorite thing at the circus! We also got to take a picture with red clown noses for Emma's mom, Mrs. Erica! 

5/11 Today we talked about elephants during Circle Time. We practiced writing zoo and circus animals. We really enjoyed Rhythm and Notes...we sang "Going to the Zoo"!

Preschool learned about the letter V today and drew pictures of things that start with V. Pre-K read the story "The Ant and the Chrysalis" and drew a picture about their favorite part. In art we learned the colors of a rainbow and drew them in order.

We are talking about weather this week! We wrote about our favorite type of weather and used a pan balance to weigh different objects!

I hope you had a great week learning about Signs of Spring! Next week, we will explore through the eyes of a meteorologist. We will also continue with the final phase of our school wide project that consists of caterpillars changing form in a butterfly garden. The students will watch as their newly formed butterflies enjoy their delicious fruits as they nourish their bodies before being set free outdoors. We will also conduct many fun arts, science, and reading activities that will give us insight on how to predict climate change, wind direction, and cloud formation.

Today during Math we worked on writing numbers. The children had fun in Spanish and playing outside. We were all excited this morning to see that we have 5 butterflies!

3/16 The Preschool students are learning about the letter "u" and the Pre-K students are learning about the letter "g". We all enjoyed reading "The Carrot Seed".

Had a wonderful week learning about birds and insects! Next week, we will get a vision of many different signs of spring. We will continue this journey with the next phase of our school wide project that consists of caterpillars changing form in a butterfly garden. The students will watch as the teachers transfer the chrysalis to their new home. We will also participate in many fun art, science, and reading activities that will give us the chance to explore scientific knowledge of why the weather changes and the flowers bloom.

2/10 Preschool learned about alliterations and drew pictures of things that started with the same sound. In math they learned about weight and compared objects to decide which was heavier and which was lighter. Pre-K read "The Apple Dumpling" and wrote about their favorite part of the story. In math they drew people to match big footprints and small footprints.

In Reading, we read The Great Shape Hunt. We had fun noticing and pointing out all the different shapes in the classroom.

Pre-K read "The Big-Mouth Frog" during Reading today and did a great job working on vocabulary and comprehension.
During Reading, our Preschoolers read "Alphabet Under Construction" and enjoyed tracing Capital letters with their fingers.

9/21  Jillian had fun playing with her rocket ship today and did a great job sharing it with her friends.
In Math we played a game called "Bag It". The children did a great job looking at the number and putting the correct amount of counters into the bag.

Mon-Students practice stating their full names today with "Full Name Catch" as part of this month's Life Skills theme, "I Know My Name and Address." The theme also ties in with our 9-week Get Ready. Get Safe. emergency preparedness blog series and Family Plan Checklist. Did you know that knowing their name can help children in an emergency?
Wed- In Science today we conduct an experiment mixing different ingredients together to create "Yellow Goo." Mixing in yellow food coloring helps us review the color of the month as we with explore this ooey gooey science experiment!
Fri- Counting by ones and tens and song count, clap and stomp

9/18  We had Spanish with Mr. Carlos today and the children had a great time. We sang songs, played maracas and danced while singing in Spanish.
We had the cultural parade today as well, our class was representing Kenya, we made flags and marched to the song of It's a Small World

9/16 The children did a great job in Reading making predictions about what would happen in The Lion and the Mouse.


9/14  In Math our preschoolers are learning to recognize objects in a set without counting. Our Pre-K children are working on recognizing which of two sets has more or fewer objects without counting.

Mon- Sttudents work together on a Pass-Along Picture during Art today. One person starts the drawing on a large sheet of paper then passes the marker to the next student until everyone has contributed and the project is complete!
wed: In Thumbs Up! today we work on moving in different ways with a fun theme-related activity called Henry Finds a Home. Students take turns moving from spot to spot (home to home) performing different actions
Fri: Students review identifying different musical instruments by picture and sound during Rhythm and Notes today.
This week we discuss the names of our teachers and classmates and what it means to be a friend during the Friends at School; Unit of Learning. Celebrate new classmates and the back-to-school season at home by making "Back-to-School Crafts" the whole family can enjoy such as: backpack tags or pencil toppers. This is a great project to share with older brothers and sisters too!

We had a wonderful day making clouds, build inside outside city out of blocks and watching clouds outside on the playground. During Art we discussed how clouds form while we painted with white paint on blue paper.

8/17  Jillian enjoyed reading books with her friends today. During Writing we practiced our letters while making a Letter Collage.

week 3 look ahead: Mon: Singing, dancing, drawing and painting are soome ways we can express ourselves. We will be exploring these ideas and more this week as we learn to express ourselves! Weds: Today during Noggin' Joggin' students will explore the concepts of drawing and painting. After reading "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh we sing a song about painting and drawing.
Fri: This week we experimented with different yoga poses during our Thumbs Up! transition times. Some of the poses we tried were "butterfly" and "rolling rock". These poses got us in the right mind set for our next activity!

week 2 This week we had fun doing our wild and wacky experiments.  Next week our theme is Express Yourself.  We will be learning to express ourselves through music, art, writing, facial expressions and dancing.  During Thumbs Up we will be learning different yoga poses,.
